Diamond Hexagon Free Crochet Pattern

This is a crochet pattern for a basic hexagon made using tapestry crochet.
This hexagon pattern was designed specifically for the Diamond Blanket, but I think it would be great for everything from blankets to tablecloths. Have fun with it!

This design is easily adaptable for different dimensions.

Gauge

Not important for this project.

Materials

♥ Yarn: 2 colors,
♥ Crochet Hook (Choose size that corresponds with the weight of your yarn),
♥ Scissors.

Skill Level

The project would be great for an intermediate crocheter looking to try tapestry crochet for the first time.

Topics Covered

The free pattern includes only step-by-step instructions. The ad-free version includes also charts and zoomed-in photos where appropriate.

Notes

1. You can use any type of yarn to crochet a hexagon. Just check the label to see what size hook corresponds with the weight of your yarn.

2. You have to use two colors (A and B) to crochet a hexagon. On each round V stitches are crocheted with color A and dc stitches with color B. Check out 4th section of this post to learn how to switch colors

3. This design is easily adaptable for different colors and different dimensions.

Stitches

Abbreviations

st(s) = stitch(es); ch(s) = chain(s); dc = double crochet; mc = magic circle; Puff (3 hdc cluster) = 3 half double crochet cluster; sc = single crochet; sl st = slip stitch; [ ] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified.

Special Stitches

Puff = 3 hdc cluster (3 half double crochet cluster) = [Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch and draw up a loop] 3 times, yarn over and draw through 6 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
V = puff, ch2, puff (puff stitches are crocheted in the same ch2-space).
Puff starting stitch= start with pulling the loop on hook to be same height as a double crochet stitch then complete as described above. Starting stitch is used at the beginning of a round or row.

Instructions

Make mc,

Round 1: ch 1 to secure the magic loop and then puff in magic loop, [ch 2, puff] 5 times in magic loop, ch 2, sl st to join last ch to the top of the first puff, sl st in the 1st ch. (Now you have 6 sets of puff +2 chs. The puff will become the sides of your hexagon and the ch-2 space will become the corners.)

Round 2: [V in ch-2 space, dc in next puff] 6 times, sl st to join last dc to the top of the first puff, sl st in the 1st ch. (Each hex side now has 3 stitches (puff, dc and puff), separated by a 2 ch spaces.)

Round 3: [V in ch-2 space, dc in next 3 stitches] 6 times, sl st to join last dc to the top of the first puff, sl st in the 1st ch.(Each hex side now has 5 stitches (puff, 3 dc and puff), separated by a 2 ch spaces.)

Round 4: [V in ch-2 space, dc in next 5 stitches] 6 times, sl st to join last dc to the top of the first puff, sl st in the 1st ch.(Each hex side now has 7 stitches (puff, 5 dc and puff), separated by a 2 ch spaces.)

Round 5: [V in ch-2 space, dc in next 7 stitches] 6 times, sl st to join last dc to the top of the first puff, sl st in the 1st ch.(Each hex side now has 9 stitches (puff, 7 dc and puff), separated by a 2 ch spaces.)

Round 6: [V in ch-2 space, dc in next 9 stitches] 6 times, sl st to join last dc to the top of the first puff, sl st in the 1st ch.(Each hex side now has 11 stitches (puff, 9 dc and puff), separated by a 2 ch spaces.)

Note

You can continue like this to make your hexagon as large as you’d like. As you see in this pattern, the hexagon increases by 2 stitches per side on each round.

Have a wonderful day and HaPpy Crocheting ♥
